Valentine's Day is Right Around the Corner...

We have less that two weeks until Valentine's Day, so for lack of any other special event happening today, I've decided to spotlight some Lift-the-Flap Valentine's books that I'm sure will be loved by the kids... don't all kids love lift-the-flap books?

Ziefert, Harriet.
I Need a Valentine! (A Lift-the-Flap Story).
1999.
Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing: New York, NY.

Ages: 3-7
Genre: Fiction, Valentine's Day
Guided Reading Level: N/A

Review/Summary:
In an indiscreet way, this story teaches children about the importance of giving. More than anything, Margery wants to receive a Valentine in the mail. However, her mother tells her that in order to expect a Valentine, she needs to send one. So, Margery sets to work making her grandfather a Valentine card and quickly mails it to him. She waits, day after day (checking the lift-the-flap) mailbox to see if he sends one in return. Just as sadness fills Margery that she won't be getting a Valentine, one arrives!

Tanner, Suzy-Jane.
The Great Valentine's Day Surprise.
1996.
HarperFestival.

Ages: 2-5
Genre: Fiction, Valentine's Day
Guided Reading Level: N/A

Review/Summary:

The postman has lots of valentines to deliver for Valentine's Day. He makes deliveries to the cat, the mouse, and the bee among many other animals. He is just starting to feel a little left out on Valentine's Day when, from his mail bag, he pulls out a valentine addressed to himself, from all of his friends who he had earlier delivered presents to! Children will love this lift-the-flap book!

Ziefert, Harriet.
Where Is Nicky's Valentine?
1987.
Puffin Books: New York, NY.

Ages: 2-5
Genre: Fiction, Valentine's Day
Guided Reading Level: N/A

Review/Summary:

Nicky the Kitty has lots of valentines to deliver to show everyone she loves how much they mean to her. However, Nicky is sad because she hasn't received any valentines. When she returns home though, she realizes there's no reason to be sad... her friends and family have thrown a surprise party for her. Another wonderful lift-the-flap book!
